Speedy Ortiz are making a return to Leeds, making it almost three years to the day after their last headline show at the Brudenell Social Club. They are set to play Belgrave Music Hall in Leeds on 19th October and are sure to cause a stir on this the third stop of their UK tour.
Formed in 2011 in Massachusetts, this indie rock outfit is a perfect cocktail of topical, poetic and clever lyricism and playful, catchy melodies with a sprinkle of grunge. They are bound to make even the staunchest indie lad look up from his can of Dark Fruits. Described by NPR “as one of rock’s most compelling young voices and lyricists”, front woman Sadie Dupuis manages to write songs which are both sparkling and jarring in equal measures.
Their third album, Twerp Verse – which came out on Carpark Records last April – provides a constant stream of non-stop wit and vitality. Check out their lead single ‘Lucky 88’ from the album here:
Support comes from London band Doe, whose second album Grow Into It was released just two weeks ago on Big Scary Monsters and Topshelf records. It’s full of exciting stuff and the two bands pair exceptionally well together. This is a night not to be missed.
