This weekend Subdub will be making its hotly anticipated and inevitably successful return to its original home, the West Indian Centre.
The last Subdub event held at the venue was well over sixth months ago, having previously been at Wire, Mint Warehouse and Beaverworks. Despite its varying venue choices, Subdub never fails to deliver with a consistent style indicative of its name.
Saturday’s event promises a combination of dub, dubstep, reggae and jungle that will be sure to shake the foundations of the venue. As expected, Room 1’s line up boasts event headliners and Leeds stalwarts Iration Steppas Sound System joined by Fatman Sound System hailing from London and Hytal Rockas Sound System all the way from Bristol.
The dub-heavy Room 2, where many students who attend find themselves sweating out all the alcohol, is set to include The Bug ft Manga Saint Hilare & Jamakabi, Subdub favourite Mala, Swamp 81’s Loefah, Grandmixxer and MC Sgt Pokes. Here’s hoping Subdub is returning even bigger and better in the new academic year.
Also on the lineup this weekend, Tribe Records presents Textasy at Wire on Friday with additional sets by Simon Scott, playing back-to-back Sayang, Mike BC and Alex T, which is building to be an unmissable one. As an electronic music connoisseur Textasy is no stranger to 90’s rave culture which, coupled with the intimate underground venue, is a force to be reckoned with.
If one night at Wire wasn’t enough then head down to the buzzing Call Lane venue on Saturday night for the brand new collaboration by Leeds event favourites Acetate who have teamed up with Dimensions Festival for a one off Autumn special which promises to be a night to remember.
On the bill for the night is Yorkshireman Blawan, who is making his comeback to Leeds for the first time since 2012, alongside rising star Gwenan who will be bringing her bold and ballsy selections to the Wire turntables.
As usual, Acetate founder Pearson Sound will be making an appearance with some funky UK techno, plus David Martin representing Dimensions Soundsystem.
