Canal Mills to Close on New Years Eve

Students of Leeds woke up this morning to the shock news that Canal Mills, one of Leeds’ most beloved venues, will be closing down at the end of the year.

The popular club and events space, which has hosted the likes of Stormzy and Disclosure, as well as countless nights of Bongos Bingo, will be ending its six-year reign on New Years Day, in what promises to be an emotional farewell.

Rumours that Canal Mills’ future was under threat circulated back in February, when it was revealed that plans to convert the 18th Century former textile mill into a residential area were undergoing approval. Canal Mills seemed to confirm these rumours in a statement earlier today, suggesting that the sad news had come “following the announcement of the Canal Mills Estate redevelopment”.

To celebrate its lasting legacy, Canal Mills has promised an unforgettable final series of Autumn and Winter events, so that the latest cohorts of Leeds freshers can experience a taste of what the club had to offer for so many years.
