Melt Festival in Germany has been going since 1997, and this year once again it continues to attract a good mix of internationally-acclaimed acts and exciting up-and-coming artists. These are some of the acts you can’t afford to miss.
Friday
Superorganism
Fresh off of the release of their self-titled album early this year, 8-piece self-described “electric collage” band Superorganism bring their unique sounds to the MeltSelektor stage early on the first full day of the festival. A feelgood mix of guitars and synths, with numerous weird and wonderful samples throughout, their music is easier to listen to and experience rather than explain. Start your Melt 2018 off right with one of the breakout acts of the past year.
Tyler, the Creator
A rare chance to see US rapper Tyler, the Creator (since he’s still not allowed in the UK) should not be missed. After his huge album Flower Boy dropped last year with numerous high-profile collaborations, he cemented himself as one of the modern-day innovators of the genre. He plays the main Melt Stage on Friday night.
Jon Hopkins
Later on the main stage, a recent favourite of Melt Festival returns to play live once more. After what seemed like an eternity to many fans, his highly anticipated album Singularity was released in May, and received huge amounts of praise from peers, fans, and critics alike. The opportunity to see him play live in such a beautiful setting is one that must be taken.
Saturday
Nina Kraviz
Scene veteran Kraviz takes over the Big Wheel stage on Saturday night and will bring her blend of fast and pulsating techno in a high energy set. Mostly known for her intense DJ sets, Kraviz also runs the Trip record label. Following other long-standing artists Lucy and Roman Flugel, the Big Wheel is surely the stage for any techno fan on Saturday.
Jayda G & Palms Trax
If dark and repetitive music isn’t to your taste, then the Forest Stage might be better for you. 2017 breakthrough Jayda G will have you moving your feet with her impeccable taste and knowledge of soulful house, whilst straight after Palms Trax will keep you in the mood with a mix of disco rarities and classics. The two artists will play music which will have you dancing and smiling in equal measure.
Sunday
Melt Festival will be playing the World Cup final for those interested on MeltSelektor stage.
Little Dragon
The Swedish quartet play the main stage in the evening. Lead by singer Yukimi Nagamo’s captivating voice, the release of the 5th studio album Season High last year helped cement the groups reputation as one of the most authentic bands of the moment, who cross different genres with ease.
Princess Nokia
Queer rap pioneer and icon who’s been releasing music under this moniker since 2013, the cult artist deservedly broke into the mainstream last year with her album 1992. Watch her whip the crowd into a frenzy on Sunday night, performing hits such as ‘Tomboy’ and ‘G.O.A.T’.
Sleepless Floor
Finally, it is impossible to talk about Melt Festival without mentioning the Sleepless Floor stage. With over 80 hours of constant music, it is one of the main attractions of the festival. At the pre-party on Thursday, ://about blank resident Resom has an extended set to take you into Friday morning with her impressive knowledge of techno and electro. On Friday, Project Pablo and DJ Seinfield take centre stage, whilst closing the stage (and indeed the festival) on the Sunday night Berlin born Ellen Allien takes control to showcase her vast music collection she has gathered in more than 25 years DJing.
