Now that summer is near, Leeds’ clubbing calendar is filling with a slew of terrace parties. In some instances, these events offer little more than the chance to grab a quick pic for the ‘gram, with overpriced mojitos and wavey sunglasses front-and-centre. The music can be an afterthought. But not all terrace parties are created equal. Look no further than Mint Warehouse this weekend to see a how a terrace party should be done.
System and Set One Twenty are completing their duo of May events this Bank Holiday Sunday, following up from their party with Ricardo Villalobos a few weeks back with an even bigger booking. This time they bring two of techno’s biggest names in Chris Leibing and Ben Klock to the city, alongside Rex Club Paris resident Molly. This is a mammoth of an event, with the Mint Warehouse terrace opening up at 3pm before the main rooms open up at 11, running right through ’till 6am.
Chris Leibing is best known as the head of CLR Recordings, a German label that has put out releases from the likes of Surgeon and Marcel Dettmann. A set from Leibing is sought after worldwide, and for good reason. Since the 90’s, he’s won accolades for his production and the creativity of his sets, and he is firmly established as one of the finest techno DJs of our times. Ben Klock is similarly respected. Leibing’s fellow German has become a top-tier DJ, become one of the foremost names of modern Berlin’s techno scene, and has managed a massively successful minimal label in Klockworks.
Whilst the party’s two German stalwarts will be turning the most heads, make sure to check out Molly. The Parisian DJ has gradually built a name for herself outside of her home country, and has featured at Panorama Bar, Robert Johnson, ADE, and Awakenings. Molly’s successful series of 22-track playlists indicate her tastemaking credentials.
