Set One Twenty to bring Moodymann to Leeds – Preview

Set One Twenty return to Mint Warehouse on March 16th for their 6th Birthday, bringing American DJs Moodymann and Seven Davis Jr. and their soulful stylings to Leeds. Their first event at Mint Warehouse since May of 2017, expect this to be a big night with a good mix of classic house, techno and future soul.

Real name Kenny Dixon Jr., Moodymann caught the public’s attention with his 1997 release Silentintroduction, which tied together deep house, jazz samples and disco into a smooth-flowing, cohesive package. The Detroit-born DJ keeps the origins of electronic music at the heart of his sets, infusing them with soul and a respect for its roots. Still, Davis Jr. doesn’t shy away from the new; his last album, the self-titled Moodymann, contains a track (‘Born 2 Die’) which uses, of all things, a Lana Del Rey song as its central sample.

Where Moodymann celebrates and makes sure to pay tribute to the genre’s roots, Seven Davis Jr. isn’t afraid to venture out to more futuristic territory. Raised in California and growing up with influences ranging from Michael Jackson and Prince to gospel and classical music, Seven Davis Jr.’s music is an eclectic mixbag of sonic elements. Look forward to some seriously funky basslines, a bit of glitchy future soul, and big surprises.

With these two established DJs bringing their best, and with support from Perrin and Parker Smith in the main room; Set One Twenty Selectors JJ Mowbray and Kyle McMahon b2b Sam Evans in Room 2; and a boiler room hosted by Kontra, Set One Twenty’s 6th birthday is building up to be an unmissable one.
