Subdub returns to its spiritual home at the West Indian Centre this weekend, for part one of four events celebrating twenty years of their events in Leeds. The last Subdub event at this venue was almost exactly a year ago, on the 25th February 2017, with Wire, Mint Warehouse, Beaverworks, Hifi and Freedom Mills playing host to the iconic Leeds night in the period since.
Despite the variation in venue, Subdub has consistently delivered the standard and style of event which it has built its name upon. The return to the West Indian Centre will look to sustain this quality, bringing a tinge of nostalgia to proceedings.
As usual, the main room will be dominated by intimidating dub, courtesy of Leeds stalwarts Iration Steppas Sound System. They will be joined by Negus Dub Warrior Sound System, and also Hytal Bosrah Sound System, hailing from Birmingham. Expect enough bass to shake the Indian Centre free from its foundations.
Most students who attend Subdub invariably find themselves in the sweaty confines of room two, which traditionally offers high-octane drum and bass and dubstep at odds with the main room. This space will play host to legends Fabio and Grooverider, who are set to bridge all subgenres of drum and bass in a way which suggests that the two men share one brain. Other highlights are Subdub favourites Mala and Jack Sparrow, who will fill out the cramped surroundings with a throb of heavy basslines.
If the return to the West Indian Centre wasn’t enough to tempt you down, the line-up should be. You would be a fool to miss out.
