Rationale @ Brudenell Social Club

Posted on 23rd October 2017 by The Gryphon Web Editor

Imagine soulful tunes mixed with R&B and then add some funky dance moves and voila! You get Rationale.

After seeing this raw talent perform as a support act for Bastille last year, I knew his voice was unforgettable. With relatable lyrics and a mellow vibe, Rationale certainly had the crowd at Brudenell in the palm of his hand.

Recently having released his debut album, Rationale showcased his impressive vocals in live performances of ‘Losing Sleep’ and ‘Deliverance’ – both of which seemed to be sung effortlessly. Looking around the audience, I noticed so many faces singing along to the songs and it just felt like such a chilled out, friendly community.

A particularly memorable moment of the night was Rationale’s performance of ‘Reciprocate’ where he got the audience clapping along and busting a move. He has some great dance moves, the kind which encourages others to bop along with you – even if you’re like me and can’t dance to save your life. His powerful projections in ‘Re-Up’ fill the room with such a head-bopping atmosphere.

Another memorable song he sung was Tethered. This slow, captivating melody really shows off his insane lyrical ability and he plays with the mood and tempo of the music as well as the audience. Fun fact: this song has been covered by Ellie Goulding, check it out now on YouTube!

Rationale’s music is diverse. It is easy listening and meaningful, and he is incredible live. He filled up the room with all ages and really gave the audience just what they wanted – a beautiful and intimate live show. Check out his catchy tunes on his recently released debut album, Rationale, now!
