Preview: (Sandy) Alex G at Brudenell Social Club, 20/10

Posted on 8th October 20178th October 2017 by The Gryphon Web Editor

The enigmatic Alexander Giannascoli, better known by his pseudonym (Sandy) Alex G, is set to bring his unique underground sound up North for his upcoming tour. His past sounds have been compared to indie legends Pavement, with his vocals on the 2014 album DSU strongly evoking an Elliot Smith vibe.

Die-hard fans of Alex G will know of his silent rise to underground fame; from Bandcamp stardom, Giannscoli has come a long way, with sold out shows across the US, to praise from the likes of Rolling Stone, Pitchfork and the Guardian.

Although best categorised as bedroom indie-rock, this artist refuses to fall under a single style, with his eighth highly acclaimed full-release and fifth album Rocket evoking influences from country, heavy metal, jazz and psychedelia. The addictive track ‘Sportstar’ combines an experimental piano ballad with droning guitar riffs, and a poetic auto tuned voice leading the way.

The discography of Alex G is multi-dimensional and constantly surpising, and his live performances are known to be both raw and brilliant. You can catch a glimpse of this captivating artist on the 20th of October at Brudenell Social Club.
