Preview: Sonic Sahara bring Sassy J to Studio 24

To see in bank holiday weekend next Friday night, Sonic Sahara are throwing their next intimate party at Studio 24.

This will be the promoters’ third time at the Mabgate venue. Last year their Leeds debut (they also throw events in Manchester) saw Tom Trago come to town, and Rhythm Section’s Bradley Zero and Hidden Spheres were brought in for the second instalment. The event seeks an open minded crowd, ready to delve into a range of new sounds and put full trust in the eclectic knowledge and crowd-reading prowess of the selector behind the decks. As an arts space by day, Studio 24 is a blank canvas for beautiful visual production too, which Sonic Sahara have have taken full advantage of in the past through some pretty entrancing VJing.

Bern based Sassy J is headlining Friday’s event, best known for her event ‘Patchwork‘, which Theo Parrish, Floating Points, Moodymann and Sadar Bahar have all made appearances at. She also featured on the Dekmantel and Dimensions lineups last year, and she’ll appear at Dekmantel Selectors in Croatia this summer; all testament to her growing esteem in the European underground community. Expect slow progression and genre-hopping with a soulful core running through.

Support will come from Bosa, founder of ‘MogaDisco‘ whose focus is on African sounds – “from Afrobeat to Highlife, Nigerian Jùjú to Ethiopian Jazz, Disco, Soukous and everything in between”.

This one’s gonna be intriguing. Tickets over on Party for the People.
