FAC51 The Haçienda is an institution pivotal to British dance music, helping shape the development of UK house by being the first nightclub to start playing the 4-4 rhythm back in the late ‘80s. It’s now been twenty years since the clubs unwanted closure in 1997, but resident DJs Graeme Park and Mike Pickering are prolonging the clubs glory days while touring the British clubbing circuit. The pair are coming to Leeds on Good Friday (April 14th) for an acid-infused takeover, as The Haçienda brand makes it’s debut in a city that has always had an affinity with everything FAC51 represents.
By innovatively collaborating with the world-renowned Manchester Camerta Orchestra, Park and Pickering present Haçienda Classical: mixing dance classics with classical instruments within First Direct Arena. The two residents play tunes from acid house’s heyday featuring a live musical orchestra, and the show has already generated acclaim from the likes of Mixmag, NME and The Times. Having sold out Castlefield Bowl and London’s Royal Albert Hall, Haçienda’s Leeds debut is the talk of the town with adverts of the Classical event being projected on numerous billboards surrounding Hyde Park.
The Haçienda Classical official after party is taking place at Church, and FAC51 are teaming up with Soak Events to perform the origins of British rave music within Leeds’ most exciting new music venue. The after party plays host to two US-based house music legends, Derrick Carter and François K, joined by residents Graeme Park and Mike Pickering who are coming fresh from the Classical event to DJ in Church. The accumulation of various Anglo-American DJs that helped shaped dance music is going to make this after party particularly special, and one not to be missed.
