ONLINE EXCLUSIVE: Leeds crash out of promotion race

After last week’s disappointing defeat to Beckett 1s, Leeds Men’s Football 1st XI hosted York 1s, knowing that they needed to win this game in hand to keep promotion hopes alive, with Beckett 5 points clear. Uni started poorly and went 0-1 down after a cracking 25 yard drive leaving keeper Sam Holt helpless. Minutes later Uni showed their counter-attacking prowess as the mercurial Harry Brown put George Mason through who slotted home to equalize. Uni’s incisive passing was too much for York, and only a minute later they took the lead through Ben Bowers after quick feet from Jack Stirland. From there, it was downhill for Uni, as they conceded two goals before the break. Manager Stephen Grime wanted quicker build-up, but unfortunately, the 2nd half was one to forget for the Men’s XI, as York added to their lead to make it 4-2. Uni’s lacklustre second half performance was atypical of their electric season, so as the referee blew the whistle for full time their promotion dreams disintegrated, as the 3 points they needed weren’t forthcoming.
