On the last leg of their tour, supporting latest EP She’s Here Now, Estrons returned to Leeds with a vengeance. I’ve wanted to catch the Welsh indie rockers again ever since their Live at Leeds performance, so I was excited to see them in one of my favourite venues.

Deservedly, the band have  received some great support from BBC Introducing. Recently, they played in session at Maida Vale for Huw Stephens, so hopefully we’ll be hearing more from them in the future on Radio One.  

As soon as Estrons came on stage, there was a distinct energy in the room. For anyone who’s not heard their music its fierce, fiery and confident, much like singer Tali herself. Her voice is similar to Paramore’s Hayley Williams – but that’s not to say the band don’t have a own, unique sound. Their songs are unapologetically tongue-in-cheek, dripping with angst.

‘Make A Man’ really got the crowd going and, despite having laryngitis, Tali absolutely nailed her vocals. She came off as fun and likeable, which is probably why an audience member bought her a shot in the middle of her set. Her energy matched the powerful sound of their music, ideal in a venue like Headrow House.

Later, an audience request for ‘Belfast’ was met with huge applause, but Tali explained that, because she was sick, her voice couldn’t manage the chorus. Without need for encouragement, the crowd sang the chorus with vigour, building the energy in the room even further.

It was a great night, and if Estrons sound like your kind of band, don’t let them slide under the radar; give them a listen.
