Preview- Anteros @ Leeds O2 Academy, 30/01/17

Gracing the O2 Academy on Monday night is London-based indie pop four piece Anteros. Having only formed less than a year ago, Laura, Jackson, Joshua and Harry have made short week of achieving big things in a very short space of time, being chosen as one of Annie Mac’s New Names for 2016. And with , it’s not hard to see why.

Carried by loud, thumping, pervasive drums that seem to chant with a life of their own, Anteros’ sound is wonderfully climactic, perfect for the confines of the O2 Academy. It’s upbeat melancholia, like giving London Grammar a bag of happy pills and recording the aftermath. But it is the haunting lead vocals that provide Anteros with their main selling point. Laura’s powerful voice envelops their songs in an enchanting, glossy vocal coating that has, deservedly, drawn numerous comparisons to Blondie, Gwen Stefani, and the Cardigans.

The substantial fan base the band have amassed since their formation is reason enough to suggest their journey is long from over. By the sound of their fresh compositions, Monday night’s pit-stop in Leeds is another stepping stone on the path to reaching some truly dizzying heights.
