Preview: LSR’s The Transmission

On 9th February, the music team for Leeds Student Radio will take over the Brudenell Social Club to showcase a plethora of their favourite artists.

The evening will host some fantastic local Leeds bands, such as Laminate Pet Animal, Team Picture, ENGINE and Necktr.

Team Picture and Laminate Pet Animal will be playing to support their upcoming double A-side split single, released on Come Play With Me, a label who enable up and coming artists in Leeds and the surrounding area to put out physical releases. Check out our interview with Tony Ereira, the overseer of the project.

At the end of the night, you will also be treated to a set from the Cosmic Slop DJs, Mike Greenwell and Tom Smith. Anyone who’s anyone in Leeds knows that Cosmic Slop is a haven of all things weird, whacky and wonderful; expect funky tunes that can bring out the snakehips in any hipster.

Profits are to be donated to MAP (Music and Arts Production), a local arts charity based in Leeds that offers access to bespoke art and music courses to young people who have difficulties in the mainstream education system. By enabling the sharing of skills and experience between diverse members of the Leeds community, MAP has evolved into a wider arts hub, offering involvement for local residents, artists and volunteers. As testament to the positive impact of MAP’s work, many of their students have gone on to pursue further education or a career in the arts, some even returning to MAP as volunteers.

As well as supporting some fantastic local talent, the event embodies homegrown ethics and organic creativity. LSR are working with other local, ethical creative initiatives to put together The Transmission, making it a memorable and exciting experience. They are currently working with Immortal Bloom, who are decorating the space with their incredible jellyfish, transforming our beloved scruffy Brudenell into an underwater utopia. Beefy Squarms will also be selling t-shirts, and Love Specs their signature glorious glasses, profits from which support Love Support Unite Foundation.

The Transmission will be broadcasted live on LSR, with a one hours warm-up show and a variety of coverage in the lead up to the event.

It’s set to be a banger of a night, doing a load of good for the community and your earholes. For £3.50 a ticket, that ain’t half bad.
