On the day women across the globe marched together in solidarity, there was no better soundtrack than the gloriously empowering and intoxicatingly unapologetic noise of Dream Wife at Headrow House.

Even if their sound isn’t typically your cup of tea, it’s hard not to fall in love with Dream Wife in person. Dancing along with the crowd to the warm-up set of Leeds locals Drahla, selling their own merch and drinking with fans, it felt as if this headline show was the band’s own house party. Their emboldening charm radiates through the room as they take to the stage, magnetising the crowd with breakneck riffs, unimpeded energy and killer attitude.

Opening with explosive anthem ‘FUU’, Dream Wife established their unrestrained virtuosity and it was clear we were in for a FUUcking treat of a night. Bella Podpadec dealt driving basslines as Alice Go launched into hypnotic guitar riffs that possessed the crowd, leaving us vulnerable to the seductive bite of Rakel Mjöll’s slinky vocals. Each part merged together with effortless perfection and, with the threesome’s sisterly chemistry and tight syncrasy, it’s unquestionable why they have been chosen to headline DIY Magazine’s ‘Hello 2017’ tour. They harbour roofless potential.

Donning sparkly Poundland cowboy hats, Dream Wife brought their set to a reluctant end with guttural glitter-pop tune ‘Hey Heartbreaker’, breaking some hearts in the process as the crowd pined for more.

With Trump beginning his threatening presidency, Dream Wife’s unapologetic two-fingers-up attitude is an empowering antidote. They prove girl power is uncrushable.
