Magic Lantern Festival lights up Roundhay

The Magic Lantern Festival  opens tonight in Leeds and is something you definitely do not want to miss this festive season. The festival trail consists of 40 giant handmade lantern displays made from 40,000 light bulbs all set to illuminate the Roundhay Park from the 25th of November until the 2nd of January.

The festival is also taking place in London and Birmingham. It is the first time the festival has come to Leeds and Birmingham but last year in London, the festival welcomed 110,000 visitors.

Right from the majestically illuminated entrance, visible from miles away, the beautiful array of colour and vibrancy almost cancels out the gloomy cold weather. As the name suggests one, feels transported to a magical wonderland with the array of giant mushrooms, flowers and animals.

The displays range from elaborate settings to miniature figurines, but each has an individual personality. It’s the perfect Christmas dream with Santa, reindeers and Christmas trees all coming to life. Each display is worth admiring for more than a minute or two in order to take in the beauty in its entirety.

There is a variety of food available including donuts, burgers, and fish and chips. The entertainment does not stop at the visual delights as there is a Santa’s Grotto for the kids, a synthetic ice rink, rides and games.  Appropriate shoes and boots are highly recommended as at points the path can get quite muddy.

If you are looking for a fun filled yet relaxed evening out with family and friends then this is the place to be. Something different from the usual Christmas markets, the stunning fusion of Chinese heritage and Christmas festivities is sure to leave you spellbound.
