Marsicans @ Brudenell Social Club, 10/11/16

Brudenell Social Club is a special venue for many reasons, but for Marsicans it meant playing to a packed room full of their home crowd, friends and family. The atmosphere was buzzing and the two support acts, Indigo Velvet and Atlanta House, set the tone for an awesome night of music.

As an Indie fan, Marsicans are right up my street. Having seen them play acoustically once before for a Sofar Sounds event, I was intrigued to see how their plugged in set would differ. Their versatility as a band is amazing and the two sets were equally impressive. They have the musical skill and charm needed to smash each performance.

It’s refreshing to watch a band perform who so clearly love what they’re doing. They have great onstage chemistry and the set was so energetic that you couldn’t help but dance around with them. They’re all clearly extremely talented and the harmonies during ‘Far Away’ were really impressive. The set included songs from their Absence EP and a few newer ones that the audience loved. At the front of the crowd, there was a small army of dedicated fans dancing along, singing every lyric. Over time, I’m sure their numbers will grow.

The songs are slick and catchy, lyrically impressive, readily packaged for the radio. The boys look so comfortable and relaxed on stage, it’s hard to imagine them doing anything other than perform. It was a really special gig, so nice to see a local Leeds band playing such a staple venue in the city. I think everyone present would agree they have a bright future ahead of them.
