This young Norwegian quartet brought their youthfulness and pop/punk rock sound to Leeds for the second time and I have to say: I was not let down. Arriving at the gig two and a half hours early, Sløtface’s practice set had an atmosphere of a high school competition, whilst the support act Nervous Twitch waited to go on stage.
When the time came for them to perform, with a basic “hello, we are Sløtace” to acquaint themselves, their first song ‘Take Me Dancing’ was introduced with a light 4/4 drum beat from Hans and a gnarly chord progression from Tor. A snappy riff from Lasse’s fender precision bass straight away got the small crowd moving and bobbing their heads to their scrappy, yet professional sound. Although the venue failed to fill, Hayley saved the day with a humorous interaction with the crowd: ‘’Okay, if you all move into the middle and I focus on my frontal vision it will seem like there’s more people here. Tonight will be an intimate gig!’’.
Continuing with their punk/neo hip image on stage they played a rocking set absent of any weak songs. Plus, the small yet enthusiastic crowd was engaged the whole way through, creating a slightly underground and supportive atmosphere.
They closed their set with their best song ‘Shave Your Head’. Slightly more mellow than the rest of their songs, it was a perfect ending to an intense and impressionable set. By the end of the night my first opinions of this band had completely changed and I was enthusiastic to congratulate them on such a successful and strong performance which impressed the whole crowd. This band certainly have a lot more in store for us and are a great example of youthful creativity.
