Walking into the The Warehouse Project for the first time, I was greeted by the ambient sounds of Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith who was in the middle of a beautiful live performance. Room 1 was overcome with her synthy magic and live vocal accompaniments — the perfect start to what was to be an outstanding evening of music. Following on from her was a live set from Floating Points, whose performance progressed perfectly and filled the arches of the store street venue with amazing jazzy tones. The set bridged the gap expertly for Leon Vynehall, who followed on from Floating Points with an incredible house and techno set infused with crowd-pleasing classics including Lush Life’s ‘The Music Sounds Better With You’.

Room 2 provided consistently good music, with the likes of Ben UFO, Avalon Emerson and The Black Madonna. Ben UFO’s set was filled with brilliant deep house and techno as well as some songs which were new and exciting (to me, anyway), such as ‘Township Funk’ from Dj Mujava. The highlight of the night came later in the form of The Black Madonna’s cohesive disco-filled 3 hour set where crowd favourites like ‘Relax Don’t Do It’ were mixed into more mysterious house songs, including my song of the night, ‘Canoa‘ by DJ Gregory & Gregor Salto.

The whole night was expertly curated by Kieran Hebden (Four Tet), with each act flowing perfectly into the next, almost as if it was one long 8 hour set. My only issues with the night were that it was impossible to see everyone from the ridiculous line up, and most of the time too crowded to properly dance…
