Review – Cave Rave at Church

Behind the ridiculously cheesy music, horrendous venue layout and remnants of VS bottles surrounding the dancefloor, Halo always had the potential of becoming a serious clubbing venue. Two years after its closure, following extensive renovations, new ownership and huge amounts of funding, it’s become Church, boasting an autumn lineup which could rival any other established club in Leeds.

After a hugely successful sell-out Back to Basics relaunch party, Church played host to Cave Rave: an event Santé and Sidney Charles were hosting in coalition with their newly formed label. The pair are two of the most influential producers in house music, synonymous for playing back-to-back sets worthy of getting any crowd moving. They even had the honour of playing at Elrow, Space Ibiza’s Closing Party with Montel’s Club Edit of Danny Tenaglia – Music Is The Answer arguably being the drop of the season.

Santè and Sidney’s sets were separate at Cave Rave, as the tech-house duo also invited German producer and Circo Loco resident Matthias Tanzmann to spin the decks. Tanzmann’s experience in the game was evident, as his deep house influenced set permitted a constant fist pump by the forever-raving crowd, supplemented by the heavenly acoustics that Church offered.

For those keen house and techno fans in Leeds, Church have added another event to their extensive calendar. On December 9th Hot Creations founder and world renowned DJ, Jamie Jones, is bringing his Paradise party to Church accompanied by label resident wAFF. So much for them ‘quids in’ Monday nights at Halo, ey?
