On the Friday before Halloween, the Fabric campaign, Save our Culture, comes to Leeds to take over brand new club Church.
The one-off party on October 28th, the only night hosted outside London, is one of many events aiming to act as a fundraiser and increase awareness for Fabric nightclub. The iconic club, which has been temporarily suspended since early September following two drug related deaths, is challenging the decision made by Islington council to revoke its license and the fundraiser is providing money for the legal fees required.
Famous names in underground club culture such as Sub Club, The Warehouse Project and Resident Advisor are supporting the London club in their fight to overturn the decision, and spearheading the campaign are world renowned DJs such as Ben Klock, Nina Kraviz, Ricardo Villalobos and Rødhåd to name a few.
The event itself has a strong line-up, with names you’d expect to see in Fabric itself. The almost legendary Fabric resident Craig Richards is of course involved, whilst a live performance from Mathew Johnson will surely be a spectacle with the backdrop of a gothic-era church. Finally world famous producer and DJ Kolsch will bring his melodic, emotional sound to Leeds’ newest club. As Aaron Mellor of Church and Dave Beer of Back to Basics point out: “nightclubs are a fundamental part of the UK’s incredible music economy and music remains one of the UK’s biggest exports – the UK public need to do all we can to celebrate and preserve this – music changes everything.”
For those wanting to directly support Fabric, a donation page exists to raise money for legal fees here. Save culture, save nightlife.
