Review – Regression Sessions: Red Light Apocalypse at Canal Mills

Regression Sessions is unique in that it combines the chaos of child’s play with electric sets from their resident DJs. It’s become one of the most popular events around the country and it’s not hard to see why. Bringing together DJ sets influenced by house, DnB and techno with elements from a children’s party, it would be hard not to enjoy yourself.

Regression Sessions: Red Light Apocalypse was held in Canal Mills’ two rooms, so there was something to suit different tastes. Groups were greeted by entertainers, which clearly made an impression as some stopped for selfies with women on stilts. Inside the venue you could see that Regression Sessions take pride in their production. Apocalypse-themed decorations like half cut mannequins and phrases like ‘Hell Is Upon Us’ hung from the ceiling, setting the scene for a night of unpretentious entertainment.

In its own words, Regression Sessions ‘does what it bloody well pleases’. This statement can certainly be backed up by the joyous atmosphere created as the big kids among us relished in having our faces painted and jumping around on space hoppers. Although not especially inspiring musically, the DJs went down well, supplying those that enjoy electronic music the opportunity to experience it in a completely different way to usual, and those that want to sample new genres the chance to do so in a less intense setting.

I’ll definitely be returning to Regression Sessions, there’s simply no other night out like it.

Regression Sessions returns to Canal Mills for a Halloween special Oct 31st. Tickets here.
