Once again the legendary Warehouse Project returns to Manchester for its yearly residency.
Featuring line-ups straight out of the dreams of serious clubbers, the landmark event once again begins on the 23rd September at its home on Store Street. The sheer scale of genres involved means that there is something for everyone across the board. Backed by an all-star line-up, MIA will headline the opening party with a rare intimate performance. Touring what she refers to as her final album, this may be one of the last opportunities to catch a show by the brilliantly controversial songstress. Other big names within WHP 2016 include the excellent DJ Shadow, drum and bass innovator Andy C, and home-country heroes Chase and Status.
Throughout the season, Grime dominates proceedings. Following its recent resurgence in the UK, WHP has performances by various influential figures within the genre; with Skepta, Wiley, Giggs and Frisco all making much anticipated appearances. Traditional Hip-Hop is also well represented with performances by the experimental rapper Danny Brown, as well as a large show at the O2 Academy by the ever-impressive Chance the Rapper. Returning to the UK for the first time since his critically acclaimed mixtape “Colouring Book”, this show will no doubt be a must-see for any hip-hop head.
Other highlights include an appearance by the Russian queen of techno, Nina Kraviz. Perhaps the most prominent female DJ in the world today, Kraviz’s performance will be one of the most anticipated sets of the season. Many dance music fans may also wish to pay homage to Carl Cox, as the veteran reappears for what will certainly be a masterclass in house music. The line-ups for the traditional New Year events remain unannounced; but judging by the rest of the line-up; they will almost certainly be jaw-dropping.
