The one-day festival ‘On Roundhay’ has returned to Leeds after a decade-long wait. As well as music in the park, the festival will boast a wide range of food and drink stands, loads of literature-based events like a live story-telling stage, as well as a fancy-dress competition and a ‘Village Green Sports Day’ including egg and spoon races and sack races.

The main attraction, however, is the music line-up. Scottish sonic chameleons Primal Scream are one of the big names gracing the stage, off the back of their eleventh album Chaosmosis. Primal Scream are constantly reinventing themselves and remain a perpetual creative force. There will be a whole smorgasbord of genres on show when The Scream play, from acid house, to garage rock, to electronica. Hearing classics like ‘Loaded’, ‘Kill All Hippies’ and ‘Moving On Up’ will undoubtedly be an amazing experience.

Indie titans James are also playing. One of the best things at Glastonbury this year, seeing Tim Booth flail around the stage to the lilting strains of ‘Sometimes’ or ‘Laid’ is not something to be missed. There’s also newcomer Max Jury bringing chilled-out yet grandiose pop stylings to the festival. He mixes a vocal style reminiscent of Lana Del Rey with a fantastic ear for melody, coming together to make brilliantly wistful music. Sure to be a fan-favourite, homegrown funk band The Haggis Horns will also be playing, bringing mid-60s New Orleans to North-East Leeds. Don’t forget to look out for teeny-boppers Wolf Alice too!

These one-day events are always brilliant, and the wide range of things to see and do and listen to make On Roundhay a must for any Leeds culture lover.
