Holiday edit – festival

British Festival.

Worlds away from the consistent sun of Coachella, the British festival calls for practicality in its fashion choices and this year a move beyond fringe and flowers. Helpfully a few staples go a long way in minimising packing and accounting for the unpredictability of the summer weather.

Inspiration for late summer festival outfits can be taken from looks earlier in the season at Glastonbury. Hi Vis Anya Hindmarch coats for Cara Delevingne and Suki Waterhouse (monogrammed with their names) as well as Alexa Chung’s vinyl trousers demonstrate well styled bad weather dressing. Topshop can be looked to for reliably waterproof macs with a good colour selection so you can go bright like Cara or match Lottie Moss and Natalie Dormer in a lighter palette. (Red rain mac £55 or Metallic rain mac £20. Both Topshop).Screen Shot 2016-08-11 at 13.33.54Poppy Delevingne pulled off florals without being cliché by pairing her Coach dress with an oversized black shearling coat. Floral playsuits make for easy styling at festivals, acting as a good base for layers as well as being very readily available in most stores. (H&M V-neck playsuit £14.99 and Topshop Floral cut-out playsuit £36).Screen Shot 2016-08-11 at 13.35.46The obvious bad weather staple for festival dressing – wellies. Hunter boots proved to be the big favourite among celebs at this year’s festivals but ranging in price up to £115 they’re not the most affordable choice. Fortunately for the festival novice not looking for investment wellies, a cheaper but very similar alternative can be found in ASOS. (ASOS GAMBLE Ankle Wellies £20, ASOS GANGSTER Wellies £18, Hunter women’s original tour gloss Wellington Boots £95).Screen Shot 2016-08-11 at 13.37.26Lily Donaldson worked double denim at Glastonbury and nineties style denim recurs as an influencer of style this festival season with mom style short dungarees becoming a useful staple. A small crop top underneath will make packing light easy, then simply pair with a mac and wellies- act as Cara did and layer a hoodie underneath for extra warmth. (H&M Denim Dungarees £29.99). An alternate way to style denim shorts is to pair them with a body suit for a dressier but still simple look –perfect for festival nights. (Anne Summers Savannah Bodysuit £30, River Island black floral print plunge bodysuit £26).Screen Shot 2016-08-11 at 13.38.54

(Topshop Hair Glitter £7.50, NYX Face and body glitter in Rose £5.50, NARS body temporary tattoos £15). For jewellery, arm cuffs and head bands go a long way and a choker can bring the nineties into the festival mix. If flower crowns remain your firm favourite then maybe switch up the classic pastel for a metallic version. (New Look festival drape armcuff £7.99, ASOS star charm velvet choker £12.00, River Island metallic floral hair crown £14.00).Screen Shot 2016-08-11 at 13.40.54Screen Shot 2016-08-11 at 13.43.02
