This Friday, Butter Side Up are set to grace us with Berlin’s best at Leeds’ most important basement, The Wire. So be prepared to lose your sheiße and skank on down to the likes of Nick Höppner and Tama Sumo with an array of electronica from moody techno to bumpin’ house.
For those of you unfamiliar with these names, they hail from Ostgut Ton, the inside label of the infamous Berghain club. As Resident Advisor’s No.1 club, this techno palace is world renowned for it exclusivity and hedonism, but most importantly it acts as the forerunner for techno music in Berlin. For one night only they are relocating to the underground of Leeds for our musical enjoyment.
A long-time resident of the Berghain, Tama Sumo returns to Wire for her second rendezvous with Butter Side Up, which in itself says a lot about the event’s ability to secure artists and keep them coming back for more. From her we can expect a full range of techno to house, old and new, with a healthy dose of disco and some afrobeats thrown in. And if this wasn’t enough, prepare your earholes for the big cheese himself, Nick Höppner, the man at the forefront of the label since its birth. With 5 solo 12”’s already under his belt, Höppner is a master at what he does. His innovative musical choices see a tantalising blend of techno, house, electronica and new wave synth to form a kind of electronic psychadelia.
It’s set to be an unforgettable night, so get on those AirForce Nikes, call the relevant people and come down for a little taste of Berlin.
