Review – ALTER presents Answer Code Request, Trevino & Kamera (live)

Alter have served Leeds with a serious set of tasty techno line ups over the last year, and last Saturday, 14th November was no different. Berghain resident Answer Code Request topped the bill, alongside Trevino and a live set from the mysterious Kamera.

Trevino, the techno-focused alias of British born Marcus Kaye, is known for his releases on Ben Klock’s prestigious Klockworks label. He took the dance floor on a journey to Berlin during his bouncy two hour set; the smoky underground setting suddenly didn’t feel like Mint club any more. Even someone who didn’t enjoy techno could not help but relish the euphoric vibes.

The atmosphere was pumped and ready for Kamera’s live one hour set that followed. His experimental productions are an indication of how his live set would be; layers of electro sounds and a lack of regard for any rules. A perfect example of experimental live techno at it’s core; always keeping the crowd in suspense ahead of the headline set.

Ostgut Ton’s Answer Code Request finally took to the decks at 3am. The room was fuller than ever but no one felt as if they’d been kept waiting; Trevino and Kamera had made sure of that. German born Answer Code Request (Patrick Gräser) built up the pace slowly, before dropping some deep, trance-like techno, perfectly setting the Berghain mood. Perhaps the most impressive set of all of the Alter nights so far, Answer Code Request knew where his set was going, and he knew exactly how to lead us there.

Alter have made a name for themselves after a string of impressive techno nights, and last Saturday only added to that. The only question is: who have they got lined up for their next party in Leeds to give us another master class in techno?
