“NEXT STOP CHAMPAGNE STEAM ROOMS LEEDS A DIS FREEEEEIDAY!!!”
The BBC3 mockumentary series ‘People Just Do Nothing’ are hosting the phattest event at Canal Mills this Friday, 20th November. Get down to see MC Grindah, DJ Beats, Steve, Chabuddy and Decoy lingering in the background. The name of the night is taken from the last episode of series two, where Chubuddy opens his club: The Champagne Steam room, with make-shift gold spray painted buckets fit for the occasion.
The show started on Youtube on 2012, and at first it was clearly a parody. You’d laugh at how ridiculously accurate the characters were to egotistical DJs and MCs, but now, you can’t knock the fact they’ve reached success. They’ve played sets at Bestival and Outlook, have had a Radio 1 Extra takeover with Craig David and Big Narstie, and are now touring the country. Is it still satirical?
On the show the characters run a pirate radio station, Kurupt FM in West London out of Steve’s Nan’s flat. They play garage, jungle, drum n bass, but strictly no dubstep. Dubstep makes Grindah feel sick. There won’t be any dubstep at the Mills this Friday. However, there will be Sheffield’s own producer/DJ Toddla T & Serocee, bashment outfit The Heatwave, Newham Generals, Foundation, Mystry and the legendary Ms Dynamite.
