Over the years, popular Hollywood movie releases have come hand in hand with make-up collaborations with iconic beauty brands such as, MAC. Here’s a roundup of the best over the past few years.
Starting with MAC, who are ultimately known for their limited edition and highly esteemed collaborations. There are many collections which could be mentioned, but the highlights definitely start with MAC x Cinderella. This collaboration was the most recent, and was certainly anticipated months in advance as part of the film’s marketing and promotion campaign. The collection sold out almost immediately online, with its focus on wearable nude colours for the eyes and lips, along with gorgeous feminine baby blue packaging; it’s not hard to see why.
Another collection which sold out amazingly quickly was MAC x Maleficent; another Disney collaboration, but this one was a stark contrast to Cinderella. Instead, this collection focused on darker colours and a bright red lip to imitate that of Angelina Jolie’s in the film. As well as the lipstick, the collection also included a gorgeous sculpting powder, to achieve the same distinct bone structure as Maleficent.
Finally from MAC, there was also their MAC x Simpsons collection. Although not adjoined with a film release, The Simpsons continue to remain iconic, and MAC certainly emphasized this through their products. The packaging this time focused on Marge’s look, the blue and yellow hews of her hair and complexion were contrasted with even brighter colours of the actual products. The bright eye shadows, blushers and lip-glosses represented the humour of the show, and also sold really well.
There’s also Max Factor’s collection in collaboration with the hotly awaited Star Wars movie. This collection – headed by creative director of the beauty brand Pat Mcgrath – focuses on more dramatic looks; from the images released, the make up even looks galactic. The looks are paired into Jedi and Dark Apprentice, Chrome and Droid, and Mystic and Stormtrooper. Experiment with metallics, dark lips and sharp eyeliner now! The limited edition products are expected to be available this month, whilst you can view Star Wars inspired makeup tutorials online on the Boots website now.
Finally, Urban Decay’s collaboration with OZ The Great and Powerful must certainly not be forgotten, focusing on pink colours and nudes, the brand released an eye-shadow palette consisting of wearable shades, and pretty pink lipsticks also expressing the brightness of the film.
These releases are the best to come out of beauty and film collaborations, and certainly help one another hugely in terms of promotion and marketing, their huge success certainly means that there will be many more in future.
