Located in The Core on the Headrow, newly opened Creams is a sophisticated delight right in the heart of Leeds’ city centre. From the moment you walk through the tall archways, you are transported into a Parisian paradise with freshly baked macaroons to the right and homemade cupcakes to the left. As you walk past the grand piano and under the decadent chandeliers, friendly waiters will show you to your seat, or booths are available for larger groups.

With an extensive menu, Creams does not disappoint when it comes to savoury or sweet choices. You can opt for a combination of the two by selecting one of their four options of afternoon tea. Obviously it’s not the usual first choice for lunch if you’re well into your overdraft, but don’t knock it as an option. Creams offers affordable prices and large portions, so you will definitely get your money’s worth. For around £14 you can get yourself a fancy afternoon tea, including savoury sandwiches, homemade scones, some extra patisserie treats, and not forgetting your personal choice of tea.

A unique quality about Creams tearoom is their varied options on the menu. Their afternoon tea can be ordered in the form of brilliantly British, or for those who fancy some Arabian aromas, an Eastern Experience. We decided to try the British and Eastern afternoon teas, with the chef’s special of a tandoori chicken “naanwich” for one of the savoury parts of the dish. We were completely blown away by the flavours, choice and portions of the afternoon tea, and can ashamedly admit that we were full to the brim on leaving the tea room.

Creams manages to create a subtly sophisticated atmosphere, where you won’t feel out of place as a student popping in for lunch nor as a group of friends celebrating a special occasion. It is a place where I could easily grab a quick and tasty lunch, or where I could go with my friends for a lovely dinner. It caters for all occasions and also different dietary requirements, as their whole menu is halal, and they even have a selection of fun, non-alcoholic cocktails.

I would recommend a visit to Creams, and in particular for their desserts and afternoon teas, as the tea room is charming and the food is delicious. If I could suggest anything, it would be to try their Yorkshire cream tea for just under £5 or to treat yourself with a box of gorgeously wrapped French macaroons.
