Beeston rapist attempted murder charge dropped

Zdenko Turtak, the 21 year old man who was found guilty earlier this month of raping and causing grievous bodily harm to an 18 year old girl at a bus stop in Beeston, has had an attempted murder charge against him dropped.

Turtak was found guilty of rape and attempt to cause grievous bodily harm in during his trial earlier this month.

On 6th March this year, Turtak pulled the victim from a bus stop in Beeston attacked her using a stone and raped her. The investigation was initially launched by police as a rape enquiry.

A charge of attempted murder was later added because of the severity of the woman’s injuries, which included a fractured skull.

Turtak was extradited from Slovakia in July after officers from the West Yorkshire Police Homicide and Major Enquiry Team issued an arrest warrant against him. The case attracted significant media attention, with BBC One’s Crimewatch programme airing a reconstruction of the incident.

He will next appear in court on the 19th October, where he will be sentenced.
