THIS weekend sees the end of the FA Women’s Super League 2014/15, and for the third year running it has come down to the final set of fixtures to see who will be crowned champion.

However, last year’s winners, Liverpool, are not in contention. This time last season they pipped Chelsea to the title on goal difference, breaking the Blues’ hearts. Despite this, Chelsea are now in prime position to make amends, sitting at the top of the table with 29 points.

Challenging Chelsea is Manchester City. The team are starting to show the promise expected of them when they made excellent signings such as Steph Houghton, Jill Scott and Toni Duggan back in 2014. They are just two points behind Chelsea, on 27.

However, both teams have challenging fixtures, setting the final weekend up to be a nail-biting one.

Manchester City play Notts County at home on Sunday at 6pm. Notts County have had a fairly successful season, reaching the FA Cup final and currently lying in 5th place.It will be a tough game for them, but they have the potential to ruin City’s title chances. It will be make or break for Man City, with a loss or draw handing the league title to Chelsea.

However, if Man City do win, Chelsea will have to beat or draw with Sunderland to finally lift the FASWL trophy. This fixture will also take place on Sunday at 6pm, creating the opportunity for literal last minute drama. The Black Cats were only promoted this season, but proved to be a surprise package, spending all of the season in the top half of the table. Nonetheless, Chelsea’s attacking flair and determination makes them favourites to edge past Sunderland, but any football fan knows that anything can happen in the beautiful game.

Once again, the Super League has been an excellent proponent for women’s football. Full of brilliant goals, surprises and entertainment, whether Chelsea or Manchester City lift the trophy it has been an excellent season.
