Teenager arrested after reported rape behind Corn Exchange

A 19 year old man has been arrested following a reported rape behind the Leeds Corn Exchange in the early hours of this morning.

The victim, a 20 year old woman, contacted the police following the incident which happened on Assembly Street in the city centre.

Detective Inspector Mark Strother, from Leeds CID, said: “At 2:19am today, police received a report of a serious sexual assault on a 20-year-old woman in a paved area near to Assembly Street in Leeds city centre.”

“A 19-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident and is currently in custody. The scene is undergoing forensic examination and enquiries are ongoing.”
