Review – Jungle Jam’s Summer Carnival

Last Friday signalled the end of another phenomenal season for Jungle Jam as their 10th year finished on a spectacular high. Spread over twelve hours the Summer Carnival boasted one of its most impressive line-ups to date with ground shaking, spine tingling sets from some of the best junglists in the business.

As always Jungle Jam did not disappoint when it came to the decor. In keeping with the carnival theme Notting Hill Caribbean BBQ provided some banging jerk chicken for worn out revellers whilst the impressive visuals and art work reinforced the atmosphere.

Mint Warehouse once again played host to a true jungle pioneer, Shy FX, who performed a hair-raising set to a packed out main room. FX performed an exclusive jungle set on the night, including a flawless rendition of his infamous Ragga-Jungle anthem ‘Original Nuttah’ which had the pumped up crowd skanking in unison. Musical genius General Levy took over after Shy FX, matching his upbeat set with an incredible performance of his own, blasting out notorious jungle anthems like ‘Incredible’ and ‘Jungle is massive’, leaving the walls shaking. The slightly less rammed outside room provided the evenings junglists with some welcomed breathing space. Jungle Jam resident Los Contreras kept the nights ravers happy with a smooth set into the early hours of Saturday morning.
All in all Jungle Jam pulled out all the stops for their celebratory 10th year, showcasing some of Jungle music’s most impressive artists and giving the Leeds massive a night they won’t forget in a hurry.
