Police have arrested a man in connection with a robbery at Sainsbury’s in Hyde Park last weekend.
The Gryphon understands the offender was carrying a knife when he stole mobile phones from customers at the store on Brudenell Road.
The incident happened in the early hours of the morning between Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th May.
A witness, who wished to remain anonymous, told this newspaper, ‘I asked the security guard what the crack was and he said the guy had an eight-inch knife on him and was nicking people’s phones.’
He added that the attacker also targeted a woman outside the store:
‘The staff and security were standing outside the store. There was a girl sitting on the wall over the road and a bloke walking towards her looking menacing. He went over to the lass, took her phone and went off’.
‘Obviously she was hysterical. She came in the shop and one of the female staff tried to calm her down. She took her into the office because she was terrified’.
The 31-year-old man has since appeared in court, where he was remanded into custody.
