UKIP Secretary asks Leeds student: ‘What are LGBT people?’

A Leeds University student has been left shocked after receiving an email from UKIP’s Yorkshire regional secretary asking her to explain “what LGBT people are.”

Charlie Smith, a third year Broadcast Journalism student, contacted Peter Morgan to ask him to speak on her radio show, The LGBT Show. After sending a number of unanswered emails, she received a response from Mr Morgan on Thursday asking, “can you please tell me what lgbt people are?”.

Speaking to The Gryphon, Charlie explained her response.

“I was pretty outraged. UKIP are usually in LGBT news for negative reasons, but I decided to give them the opportunity to speak honestly about their policies and clear up any inaccuracies, but now I just feel really let down”.

“The fact that a regional secretary did not already know what LGBT means is bad enough. But the fact he didn’t take two seconds to Google it? It’s disgusting’.

Mr Morgan has been a member of UKIP for seven years. His description on the UKIP Yorkshire website explains that “he joined UKIP because in his opinion the Party is the only one that speaks Common Sense”.
