A survey conducted by the Times Higher Education supplement has ranked the student experience at the University of Leeds as one of the best in the country for the fifth year running.
The survey, which is conducted annually, asks over 14,000 full-time undergraduates to rank their university experience based upon a variety of different key areas and aspects of campus life. Categories include campus environment, the quality of facilities, how well-structured the courses are, the helpfulness of staff, support and welfare, the value of local shops/bars/amenities, and how well connected the university is with industry.
The University of Leeds as a whole scored highly across all areas of the survey leading to a ninth place ranking for students’ overall experience, with particular highlights including being voted joint-second for centralised and convenient facilities and joint-third for extra-curricular activities and societies.
Professor Vivien Jones, University of Leeds Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Student Education, said: “We aim to give students a flying start to life by inspiring them to embrace everything that university has to offer. The powerful combination of knowledge and opportunity we provide for students is a defining feature of education at Leeds.
“Working in close partnership with Leeds University Union, we listen to our students and work hard to respond to their needs and aspirations, so being voted into the top ten once again is really encouraging. Leeds is a fantastic place to live and study and we are very proud that our students also rate it so highly year after year.”
As part of the University retaining its place in the top 10 for best student experience, Leeds University Union also managed to keep hold of its title of joint-second best student union in the UK, falling just short of top-ranked Sheffield SU.
LUU Union Affairs Officer, Bradley Escorcio: “It’s fantastic that Leeds has been ranked by Times Higher Education as one of the top ten universities for student experience and it’s even better news to see that Leeds University Union has been awarded as joint second best Students’ Union. Making sure our students get the most out of their time at Leeds and supporting them every step of the way is what we strive to do day in day out. We’ll continue to invest all our efforts into making sure every student loves their time at Leeds. A big thanks to everyone who rated us highly in the survey, it’s great to get such positive feedback!”
