A group of 38 athletes from Leeds Triathlon Centre travelled down to Oxford University on Saturday 14th to race in the BUCS Biathlon event. The event consists of a 1600m run followed by a 200m swim and runs in conjunction with Modern Pentathlon programme. Leeds Triathlon Centre dominated the event, claiming an outstanding 11 out of 12 of the medals available.
In the men’s event, Beau Smith (University of Leeds) took first place with a total of 2673 points over the two events. Sean Watson and Greg Chambers, also from the University of Leeds, claimed second and third place respectively. Overall Leeds Triathlon Centre had eight of the top 10 finishers. In the men’s team event; Smith, Watson and Liam Lloyd of the University of Leeds finished in first place with their combined points. The University of Leeds also took second place with Chambers, Ali Rogers and Nathan Marsh, and Leeds Beckett University finished just behind them in third place with Josh Carnell, Elliot Smales and Steven Sims.
In the women’s event, Hannah Drewett (University of Leeds) reclaimed her title from the previous year with a total of 2474 points. It was extremely close between Drewett and Chloe Cook (Leeds Beckett University) who finished closely behind in second place with 2435 points, and Sarah Hodgson (University of Leeds), who was struggling through injury, finished in third place. The University of Leeds girls took first and second places in the women’s team event, with the University of Birmingham in third. A fantastic result for all the athletes who raced, achieving many personal bests and a large handful of BUCS points!

Meanwhile over in Australia, University of Leeds alumnus Tom Bishop raced in the Mooloolaba Sprint World Cup, finishing 19th overall. This weekend some of the Leeds Triathlon Centre athletes will be heading to Quarteira in Portugal to compete in a European Cup.
