Uni students win BACIL design competition

Two University of Leeds students have won the BACIL (Business Against Crime in Leeds) student design competition, meaning their crime prevention posters will now be used to highlight the threat of theft in locations throughout the city.

Daniel Keane, 18, who is an undergraduate Graphics and Communication Design student and 25-year-old Advertising and Design MA student Punyaruk Baingern will now see their winning posters appear in shops, bars and clubs all over  the city to encourage people to watch their belongings and be aware of theft.

BACIL, whose motto is ‘Together we’re better protected’, is a joint venture between West Yorkshire Police, Leeds City Council and Safer Leeds, which works with over 300 daytime and nighttime businesses throughout the city to “make Leeds a safer place to live, work and play.”

Acting Manager of BACIL Sean Walker said: “We were looking for simple, eye-catching poster designs that would give a bold message and have maximum impact on all age groups, particularly young people and students.  The competition received a great response and we were really impressed with the high standard of the entries.”

“The winners we have picked are both strong, colourful designs which we hope will really attract attention when they go up in venues around the city over the next few weeks.  We’d like to congratulate our winners who both now win £300 cash prizes, as well as the credit of having their designs professionally printed and on display for all to see.”
