Police have launched an investigation into an allegation of serious sexual assault near Hyde Park on Saturday night.
The alleged incident happened at around 8.30 – 9.30pm close to the junction between Royal Park Road and Moorland Avenue.
The victim has been named as a 43-year-old local woman.
Detective Inspector John Dexter from Leeds District CID said, ‘Officers were made aware of the report yesterday evening (9/3) and a scene close to the junction of Royal Park Road and Moorland Road in Hyde Park has been examined.
‘Enquires are at an early stage and we are continuing to support the victim- a 43-year-old local woman- while we work to establish the circumstances around the incident.
‘I am particularly keen to hear from anyone who may have been in the area close to Royal Park Road and Moorland Road on Saturday around 8.30pm- 9.30pm and who saw anything suspicious.’
Students told The Gryphon that officers had cordoned off the area following the incident, and that police tape was still displayed this morning.
There is not believed to be any link between the alleged sexual assault and a separate investigation into attempted murder and serious sexual assault following an incident on Friday night in Beeston.
Officers have asked anyone with information to call 101 and quote the crime reference number 13150096196.
