A new exhibition giving an insight into the experiences and cultural heritages of Leeds’ international women is to be showcased from today.

‘My Case, My Journey’ will open its doors in The MillSpace at Leeds Industrial Museum at Armley Mills from the 5th of March to the 30th of May 2015. Visitors can discover more about the lives and stories of women from the city’s migrant communities and the individual challenges they have faced.

The exhibition will form part of Leeds’ International Women’s Day celebrations and has been curated by eight student volunteers from the University of Leeds. The volunteers worked with the Together Women Project to meet women in community groups and find out more about the personal journeys that have shaped their identities.

Featuring in the exhibition will be objects loaned by some of the women, a diverse selection of pieces taken from the Leeds Museums and Galleries’ collection, and art work created by the students and women together. Expect to gain a unique perspective on life in Leeds, removed from the student experience that defines the city for us, through the eyes of women who have come to call Leeds their home.

Councillor Lucinda Yeadon, Leeds City Council’s executive member for digital and creative technologies, culture and skills said:

The public opening event is Thursday 5th March 5.30pm
