Police have arrested a 23-year-old man on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm in relation to an assault on a man outside Mission nightclub last weekend.
The assault took place at around 3.30am in the early hours of Sunday morning, when a 23-year-old man from Wakefield was knocked unconscious.
The victim had been involved in an argument with two other men before he was attacked outside the club on Heaton’s Court in the city centre.
It was reported yesterday that the man was being treated for serious head injuries at Leeds General Infirmary.
A statement released by West Yorkshire Police on Tuesday said: “The 23-year-old was arrested after he attended Walsall Police Station, in the West Midlands, last night. He has been transported to Leeds where he is currently in custody on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm in relation to an assault on a 23-year-old man from Wakefield which happened in Heaton’s Court, near to Club Mission nightclub.”
Detective Chief Inspector Steve Snow, of West Yorkshire Police Homicide and Major Enquiry Team, said: “The arrest has come about as a direct result of the public appeal and we are still seeking information to help us identify the second man shown in the CCTV.
“As we detailed yesterday, he has a distinctive ‘undercut’ hairstyle which is shaved all the way around the level of the ears and then pointed at the front. We believe he is also from the West Midlands area and I would appeal for him to come forward or for anyone who knows who he is to contact us.”
“The injured man is now stable in hospital but is still in a very serious condition.”
Anyone with any information is asked to contact the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team via 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
