Editors’ Choice w / 16th Feb 2015

This week it’s all about BADBADNOTGOOD’s collab with Ghostface Killah – the perfect soundtrack to ease you into essay writing season.

1.

BADBADNOTGOOD & Ghostface Killah – Sour Soul

The title track from the best collaborative LP of the year (so far), ‘Sour Soul’ hits the sweet spot between hip-hop and jazz. Ghostface’s lyrics are dark and brooding, pensive at best – a counterpoint to the vastness conjured by BBNG’s musical brilliance.

2.
Lion Babe – Jump Hi

The harmonies in this track are absolutely gorgeous – the vocals from Jillian Hervey, Lucas Goodman and Childish Gambino align perfectly to create a track to warm you from the inside out. You’ll have this on repeat, promise.

3.
Tropics – Rapture

Imagine a jazzier, laidback, Toro y Moi track dripping with beautiful piano chords. Sublime.

4.
Belle and Sebastian
– The Party Line

Melancholy lyrics undercut by an 80s disco beat, Glaswegian indie pop duo are back and better than ever. 5 years since their latest album, we’re more than ready for their latest offering Girls in Peacetime Want to Dance.

5. Jose Gonzalez – Leaf Off / The Cave

Argentine-Swedish singer-songwriter tentatively unfolds and unfurls from his usual bare-bones approach to tentatively embrace a more vibrant sound.
