Forget midriffs this Spring, designers hailed a new form of exposure through the use of cut outs. Positioned around the waist, as shown on the Balmain catwalk above, cut outs create the allusion of a smaller waist and hourglass figure.

Watch out for this trend on the catwalk in the formation of dresses and tops. This look is great for an evening out because of its sexy yet subtle silhouette. Less is more though, so keep away from plunging necklines or very short hemlines. Missguided has some affordable and pretty pieces, while Acqua by Acqua offers futuristic styles at a higher price range. You may have noticed this was a popular style with celebrities at the Golden Globes a couple of months ago, with Rosamund Pike and Emily Blunt both choosing cut out styles with ethereal and elegant chiffon balls dresses.
