Last Tuesday saw the return of Jamz, one of the biggest grime nights in Leeds, started up by Elijah and Skilliam. Hosted at Wire, Jamz performed its last event of 2014 to a sold out crowd. Featuring an eagerly anticipated line up the night, as always, did not disappoint. Seeing as it was held in such an intimate space, the venue and accompanying sound system assured the night went off with a bang. In comparison to larger venues in Leeds where you end up losing half your mates before you even get in the door, the single room at Wire is a welcome change.

Kicking off the evening was seventeen year old MC Novelist who proved just why he’s  being tipped as one of the biggest names in grime. Next on the decks was grime MC P  Money who began his set with an attempt to outdo Novelist’s rave flow, pumping up  the already hyped crowd.

DJ Q reminded us why the North is the spiritual home of bass line with a killer set  that had the tightly compressed crowd going wild. Meanwhile Spooky demonstrated  that grime has found a home from home at the Wire, dropping deep old school grime  beats for the MC’s to follow.

Elijah and Skilliam prove there has been a revival in the form of instrumental grime, as the resident hosts took over the decks. Providing a fiercely grime set, with smooth hints of UK funky, the pair delivered a hypnotic set.

Grime is steadily making a comeback in the UK through intimate yet impressive nights like Jamz. If you’re a grime fan be sure you make it down to the next Jamz night in 2015.
