Hundreds attend funeral of Uni student Trisha Lad

University of Leeds student Trisha Lad was laid to rest last Wednesday following her tragic death last month.

Over 300 mourners lined the streets to pay their final respects to Trisha and her younger sister Nisha, as two horse-drawn hearses carried their bodies to Scholemoor Crematorium, near their family home in Clayton, where a private Hindu ceremony was held.

Trisha, who was 19 and a Biomedical Student in her second year at Leeds, was found dead at her home near Bradford last month, alongside her mother Daksha, sister Nisha and father Jitendra. An investigation into their deaths revealed that all three women were stabbed to death, while Mr Lad died from a compression of the neck as a result of hanging. It is believed by West Yorkshire Police that Mr Lad had stabbed his daughters and wife before committing suicide.

All four members of the family were well-respected in the Hindu community, and both Jitendra and Daksha Lad were part of Bradford Council.  Nisha was a successful student at Thornton Grammar School, while Trisha was a much loved member of the University of Leeds.

A spokesperson from the University of Leeds said:  “Our thoughts are with Trisha’s friends and loved ones. Staff are working with the University’s counselling and chaplaincy services to help students who are affected by this tragedy and we will do all we can to support them.”
