Gryphons Squash opponents

This Wednesday saw a busy day at the Gryphon centre for Squash with three home matches – the men’s seconds, thirds and the women’s second team all playing. Some great matches were played, with fantastic results throughout as everybody won 3-0!

Shereen kicked off the matches at 1:30 against Durham’s 3rd team for the still undefeated Leeds women’s team with her trademark serve letting her take the lead early on. The second game proved even more of a success for the Gryphons with Shereen dominating the game, bringing home an 11-1 win, bringing the score to 2-0. The third game continued in similar suit, with some good lengths taking Shereen to an easy 3-0 victory for Leeds. Ruchi then continued the trend, with her strong variety of shots and good court movement pressurising her opponent and leading her to take another 3-0 win for Leeds.

Meanwhile the men’s teams were playing in similar fashion, with the 2nd team playing York and the 3rd team playing Bradford. First on for the 2nds was Joe, who took three easy wins from the opposition without even breaking a sweat. His accurate placing of the ball alongside power ensured that his opponent did all the running around and took him to a quick 3-0 victory. Similar results were achieved for the 3rd team with James, Lovkush and Masa all rapidly defeating their opponents and bringing the team to a 9-0 victory against Bradford. Their well-positioned shots and excellent court movement left no room for error from Bradford, ensuring all the boys brought home wins for the Gryphons. Ben’s ability to repeatedly play to the nick and strong power took him too to a 3-0 victory for the men’s 2nds leaving it down to club president Kieran to bring home a clean sweep win for this team too – which he did!

Back on the girl’s court, similar results were being achieved with Liv triumphing over her opponent 3-0, including an 11-1 domination in her second game. Anna finished off the day with some super squash, playing at number 1 for the girls. Her excellent court movement and well placed shots ensured that despite her opponent having a strong serve, she still came out on top, bring home the final 3-0 victory for the Leeds Gryphons.

Next week sees the Women’s first team play their Premiership playoff against Bristol at home, with all concerned hoping for similar results as this week!
