The weather has certainly turned for the worst. With cold winds accompanying our early morning walk to lectures it is no surprize that big woollen scarves are back on the radar, but this time with a tartan twist.
Tartan has always been one of those trends that comes back year after year. Last Autumn we were all wearing cute tartan skirts that slightly resembled secondary school uniforms, but this year everyone has adopted the tartan scarf. If you tend to stick to block colours then a scarf can be a great way of injecting colour into an outfit without it being too overpowering or loud.
Tommy Hilfiger’s Autumn/Winter 2014 collection was the siren of this trend matched with shearling overcoats and bobble hats; note the bare legs with this look too. If you’re not a fan of traditional plaid River Island has some gorgeous alternatives, such as this cream version shown above. If you want something more substantial look to DsQuared or Ralph Lauren, though these will set you back a good £70 or more. My favourite is Urban Outfitter’s Black and Red Oversized Plaid scarf, not too expensive at £20 and it would definitely be a versatile investment!
