In the wise words of Liza Minelli, put down your knitting, your book and your broom and join the Stage Musical Society in their one time only Cabaret Show that’s sure to get your toes tapping! Featuring songs from hit musicals such as Chicago, West Side Story, Les Mis, the Cabaret Show promises to be a fun-filled night that is sure to have you singing along under your breath. There’s even a sneak peek of their upcoming show, Guys and Dolls.
You will be treated to powerful voices, captivating choreography and incredible mastery at dancing with heels. On top of that, the enthusiasm and commitment of the performers really shines through. Alex Barry, a 2nd year student and a new member of the society, describes his experience as “active, uplifting and full of joy”. This is evident in the performance, during which you’d be hard pressed to keep a smile off your face.
As well as solos and duets, the show has some great group numbers. The shining moment comes in the form of the Girls vs. Boys sing-off competition, where each gender truly exhibits their talents against the other. We’re not telling what songs they’re going to sing, but they’re sure to get the crowd excited.
If you’ve been convinced and want to see the show, tickets will be on sale in the Union from Monday 20th October for £5. Society secretary Maria assured us that they will be easy to find – singing isn’t the only thing the society members’ voices are good for! The performances are on the 23rd and 24th of October and will be held in the Riley Smith Hall in the Union, so come on down!
If you find you can’t stop shimmying and shaking after the show’s done, why not join the society? No training is required and anyone can join, so long as you’re willing to give it your all and aren’t afraid of having a laugh. With only a £5 membership fee for the whole year, Stage Musical Society will ‘rock your boat’ and make your time at university just that much more showstopping.
